Evan's 4th Birthday Party

This particular nugget is getting older so fast! I feel like every time I turn around he's bigger and talking more intelligently and just getting more awesome in general. I got to do his birthday party cupcakes again this year and the theme was batman. In order to avoid doing straight black cupcakes I made them chocolate with blue frosting and created the Batman symbol out of chocolate. They turned out pretty cute and the nuggets seemed to enjoy them, or at least the frosting!

The party was at Jumpin Jungle in Clear Lake, which was a really efficient and fun place for a party in case you're looking, so many bounce houses!

Cookie Monster and Elmo Treats for Evan

It was Mr. Evan Crisp's 2nd birthday last week and I was lucky enough to be in charge of his cakes for this birthday party last weekend. His mamma, my friend Amy, requested cake pops and cupcakes that looked like Elmo and Cookie Monster. I had never tried to make cake pops before so I had to do a few trial runs before I was comfortable committing. I can't say that I'm the next Bakerella (who inspired these cake pops) but they were recognizable to a 2 year old so I call that a win! Here are the goodies:

Cake Pop Supplies:
I used mercken candy melts and wilton candy dye (to make cookie bluer) for the coating. The face on cookie was a dark chocolate candy melt cut in slightly more than half, Nabisco Gripz cookies, and candy eyes. The face on elmo was a dark chocolate candy melt cut in half, tear drop candies for the nose, and candy eyes.

Cupcake supplies:
I used cream cheese icing with red gel food coloring pushed through a grass tip (#233). The face on elmo was a cut in half oreo cookie (only one side, no icing), grocery store jelly bean, and icing eyes with a mini chocolate chip iris. The icing on cookie was vanilla with blue gel food coloring pushed through a grass tip. The face on cookie was a cut in half chips ahoy cookie, and candy eyes.

Thanks to Amy and Evan for including me on this fun day!

Evan's Puffy Quilt

Awhile back (like summer or fall 2010) I bought some crazy fun fabric from the Monaluna Circa 50 line that had rockets and moons on it. I figured it would be perfect for someone eventually (hello NASA), but after seeing how much Evan liked his sister's puffy quilt I knew I had to make him one too. The Monaluna fabric had teal and orange in it which I decided would be so much fun for a little boy and thus Evan's puffy quilt was born! Here are some pictures of the finished product:

When I dropped the quilt off on Monday, I was treated to delicious dinner involving some seriously yummy grilled asparagus as well as some good conversation with Evan. I may have only understood about 25% but he sure does have a lot to say nowadays, so cute! Thanks for having me over, Crisps!

Remember, if you want to make your own puffy quilt, you can buy the tutorial from HoneyBear Lane here: PUFFY. Enjoy!

Evan Turns 1!

My friends Amy and Brian had a birthday party for their little nugget, Evan this weekend. He's already 1 year old! So crazy! There was lots of delicious bbq and munchies and even a bouncy castle that the adults seemed to thoroughly enjoy. Since it's World Cup time I got Evan a USA World Cup skills ball (basically a really small soccer ball) and some cones for when he's up and running and needs to practice his mad football skills. Here are some pics from the party:

Oh, and as a bonus, Amy just announced that she is pregnant again! So excited, congratulations Crisps!

EtsyTX Baby Gift Swap

I joined the Etsy TX Street Team and immediately wanted to interact with other members. I decided to do the Baby Gift Swap going on in February. How it works is a bunch of people sign up a baby (Yes I'm borrowing Evan for this activity, No I do not have a secret child) and then they each get assigned a swap partner. Then you make a gift for your partner and htey make somehting for you. I was assigned Jemimah who has a 9 month old girl for my project. I read her Gift Swap profile and found out that she likes 1950's fashion and green and white were her favorite colors. I decided to knit a hat from this information. I used these two pictures of 1950's hat styles as my inspiration:

I used the shape of the green swimming cap style hat in the collage photo and the bow on the turban-style hat to create the following look:

Hope it works out well!

Super Busy Weekend!

Well this weekend was packed full of activities, so I got zero crafting completed. We had a great time at Duck's Tacky Sweater Party on Friday, Jaxon's 3rd birthday party on Saturday, and Club Haven's Christmas Jammies Party on Saturday night. Here are the highlights from each party:
