Baby A!

My best friend had a baby!!!! I'm sooo excited! My poor sewing machine and knitting needles are about to get a workout (for the next several years) now that I know she's a girl (they wanted it to be a surprise)! Welcome to the world baby A!

Puffy Quilt for Krista and Brian's New Nugget

My good soccer and game night peeps, Krista and Brian just had a sweet baby boy and I had a puffy quilt waiting for them. Unfortunately, I got really sick right after he was born and I had to wait until after Christmas break to give them his puffy quilt. So, now that they have finally seen it I can reveal it here. It was another unisex attempt, but I think it turned out a bit boyish so I'm glad they had a boy! Here it is:

I always love a good animal themed blanket! I also made a pink and grey one for Miss Reagan, but I totally forgot to take pictures of it! Major fail! I'll have to ask Ali to snap a few shots of it for me I guess.

Jungle-Themed Baby Puff Quilt

My friend Leslie recently asked for another baby puff quilt and I was more than happy to oblige, I think they're my favorite thing to sew nowadays. The bedding was a compilation of animal prints with an orange pillow and there was also a green painting int he room. I chose to use just the giraffe print (Leslie's request, but also my favorite of the animal prints), an orange polka dot pattern, and a jungle leaf pattern in green. Here is the result:

Puffy Christmas!

Dragon Hat

Recently my friend, Krista G., requested that I make a few items for her as baby shower type gifts. Krista has been easily my best friend/customer and I love her requests because they are usually for things that I haven't made yet so I get to start new projects. This time around she asked for a dragon hat for the baby of a couple that loves going to Renaissance Festival etc. This project was so much fun from deciding on a neat scaly fabric to making the whole project come together to look like a dragon (and not like a fish as earlier test runs did). Anywho, the final project was completed last week and delivered yesterday and it was a success. Here is the finished product:

More Pictures of My Booties on Babies

So, obviously I don't have my own baby to dress up in all the baby accessories and whatnot that I make. I think Baloo would look handsome in some soccer booties, but then he would most definitely eat them. In addition to the previous post about baby Hannah, I was super excited to find out from my friend, Amy, that there were more pictures of actual babies wearing my booties. I love to see the stuff I make on the little nugget recipients. the soccer booties I made awhile back were for one of my teammate's daughter, Hannah. I asked them to take some pictures of her wearing them and they totally delivered in spades! Here are just a few pics of her cuteness:

Puffy Baby Quilt

I found this tutorial on how to make a puffy baby quilt on the Honeybear Lane blog and I knew I had to at least attempt this project. It looked like tons of fun and I figured it would make an excellent present for the baby in miss Amy's belly. So I headed to the fabric store and immediately bought some purple, yellow, and brown fabrics to make the pieces to the quilt. Luckily, I found out the next day that Amy was having a girl, phew! Soccer Baby Booties

Remember baby Hannah for whom I made the pink tag elephant? Well, her mom emailed me the other day to ask if I could make some baby soccer booties for her because the Sambas they have won't be fitting her for awhile. I am, of course, always happy to promote soccer at a young age so I was excited to start this project. I decided to make them similar to actual Sambas but without the trademarked adidas 3 stripes. Here are some pictures of the final product:

Mod Vintage Lavender booties

I've been cruising ModCloth a lot lately in search of dresses for various happenings and I think all the modern/ vintage styles are seeping into my brain because I made these super cute mod vintage lavender booties the other day:

They are made from a cotton fabric with a geometric print and spiced up with a little lace and bobble detailing. They're now available on my Etsy store (yes I still have one I've just been neglecting it lately). Let me know what you think!

Girlie Stuffed Elephant

Remember the stuffed elephant I made for baby Vaughn? Well I liked it so much that I decided to make another for my friend Mike when his baby Hannah was born. This was another 'we're going to wait to find out the sex of our baby' situation so I had to wait until she was born to make her gift. Here is a pic of the girlie version of my tags and textured stuffed elephant:

First Stuffed Animal

On my birthday I unfortunately missed my friend Kimi's baby shower. Incidentally, so did Kimi herself haha! She was having contractions and later that week she gave birth to a healthy baby boy. Since we all now knew the sex of the baby I was able to add a cute handmade blue item to her A&M-themed gift I had already compiled. I decided to make a texture/ tag animal. I made a stuffed elephant with corduroy, minky cotton, and puckered cotton. I then added lots of different ribbons- satin, grosgrain, bobble, and ric-rac. Here is a pic of the final product:

Etsy Summer Baby Shower 2010 Gifts!

I participated in the Etsy Summer Baby Shower 2010 as a donating shop. I offered up 4 gifts and was assigned 4 babies (3 moms- twins!). I got 2 boys and 2 girls. I wanted to use this opportunity to try out new designs as you saw in my previous post with the corduroy conductor hat. Here are the other things I came up with:
For the twins I made the teal corduroy conductor hat and a hot pink angel wings onesie:


For the 5 week old boy from Alaska I made a Mini Ears Hat which can be bought at my store and a Hanky-style Drool bib with his name on it:


For the 2 month old girl I made another bigger pink angel wings onesie:

Auburn Baby Gift: Finished!

I handed off the Auburn-inspired baby gift yesterday. I was in such a rush I forgot to photograph the final package and the booties, but here are some pics of the blanket and hat finally finished:

EtsyTX Baby Gift Swap

I joined the Etsy TX Street Team and immediately wanted to interact with other members. I decided to do the Baby Gift Swap going on in February. How it works is a bunch of people sign up a baby (Yes I'm borrowing Evan for this activity, No I do not have a secret child) and then they each get assigned a swap partner. Then you make a gift for your partner and htey make somehting for you. I was assigned Jemimah who has a 9 month old girl for my project. I read her Gift Swap profile and found out that she likes 1950's fashion and green and white were her favorite colors. I decided to knit a hat from this information. I used these two pictures of 1950's hat styles as my inspiration:



I used the shape of the green swimming cap style hat in the collage photo and the bow on the turban-style hat to create the following look:

Baby Mitts

So I started this project awhile ago and this week I picked up the needles to finally complete it. I was knitting along with my contrast color and ran out of yarn, arg. So Now I've knit up another mitt in light blue and navy blue and I've started its pair as well. I made sure to choose a large ball of yarn for the contrasting color this time, and I have 2 balls of the main color no worries! Here is the sad pair of unfinished mitts:

I love these guys because they 1)keep baby's hands out of their mouth 2)keep baby from accidentally scratching themselves with their tiny tiny fingernails and 3)are super fun looking and warm! I'll post the pair when I finish.

My Etsy Store!!!!!

Well, I've finally gotten everything together and opened my own Etsy store! It's called Ten and Ten (as in fingers and toes) and it's all about little ones. A lot of the knit and handmade items you have enjoyed in my blog are now for sale in the store. Anything baby I can probably make it. I have only a few items up right now, but I'm exploring new options and when my new Singer sewing machine comes in the sky's the limit! Surprise Baby Shower

At our company people love a reason to have a party. One of the guys in QA is having a baby soon so some of the women in have decided to throw him a surprise baby shower. For a man. Strange, I know, but I'm always up for a reason to make baby gifts so here is what I came up with for his soon to be baby girl: a knit hat of the softest yellow yarn and pink ribbon, a matching pink and yellow tutu as a photo prop for when they get pictures taken, and a pink onesie from the GAP.
