Baking Gone Whole Wheat

I like to keep the food that comes from my kitchen as healthy as possible, however, baked goods are usually the exception. Those delicious goodies are usually loaded with sugar and butter, yum! However, I ran out of regular flour this weekend in the middle of making yet another set of zucchini bread (yes I still have more zucchinis) and I had to use the whole wheat flour that I had leftover from some 'healthified' chocolate chip cookies. The zucchini bread turned out ok, a little dry so next time I'll have to add extra oil. I think I'm going to try and work with wheat flour as often as possible to allow the healthy foods theme to spill over into my baking :)

Another baby hat

This pattern is really adorable and super easy to do as well. I knit mine on size 8 needles so it came out a bit small, but I think it will still be really cute on a newborn. The pattern can be found here: HAT! Here is my version:

Puppies!

Well our puppies are about a year and 5 months old now. They've gotten so big since we picked them up last May! According to their vet visit in June Baloo weighed 76.9 lbs and Bernoulli weighed 70.6 lbs. Here's a picture of Baloo in our new apartment, happy boy:

And here is a picture of Bernoulli after his first trip to the brand new dog park at Bay Area Park:

And here is one of them at the little beach in Seabrook off the Seabrook trail:

One more (Mommy likes to take pictures of her pups):

Small Noggins

Recently I was chatting with my friend Ashmo and I learned that her sister had a baby and that she was the Godmother. I was very excited of course, because that meant another small noggin for which to knit an adorable hat! Ashmo's sister had a daughter and I happened to have some leftover pink cotton yarn sitting on a cone from an old blanket I had knit. I decided to go with Woolly Wormhead's 'Cubba' pattern from her Wee Woolly Toppers collection, found here: HAT! I nixed the ear flaps since the knit I-cord takes forever and this is what I came up with:

I'm pretty happy with it, but I hope it looks ok on the kiddo. Seems slightly envelope-ish right now but the picture from the pattern is adorable so I have high hopes that the hat looks better on than on the hanger so to speak.

Baby Blanket

I was cleaning out my yarn bin last night and I came across this fully completed baby boy blanket:

This blanket was also knit using the Project Linus pattern. I will probably drop this off with the closest Project Linus representative as soon as I get a chance. So fun to find forgotten projects!

Baby shoes reinvented

So I've been able to make the baby shoes easier to produce! I made this guy in about an hour:

I love this fabric too! I picked it up from JoAnn's on Friday and it's really versatile. Depending on where I cut the pattern it can be a girl shoe or a boy shoe. The only downside to this new method is a small amount of hand sewing to close up a seam where I turn out the pattern. I also used vinyl for the sloe of this shoe since it's for an 18 month old, and that made for a very thick seam that my little sewing machine couldn't handle very well. Going to have to upgrade the machinery!

The first baby shoe, as promised

Well, the whole making baby shoes has been much more difficult than I had at first thought. Everything being so tiny makes for difficult maneuvering on the sewing machine, especially since mine is not of the best quality. After many, many failed attempts, this is the first complete shoe I managed to make:

Unfortunately, I've run out of the green seersucker making so many mistakes so this guy will have to fly solo until I can get more fabric haha. I'm now working on making this design easier to make. This guy took well over an hour to complete and there has to be a better way! Feel free to send any suggestions my way :)

Baking Extravaganza

This past weekend I went to the Clear Lake Shores Farmer's Market (first and third Saturday of every month 8am-12pm on 2094) and purchased my usual veggies etc. This week the farm that I usually buy my produce from had switched from selling individual items to selling small lots. So, instead of my usual 1 zucchini, I had to buy 6! Now, one of their zucchinis usually makes 2 loaves of zucchini bread, which is plenty for me. This week I have to make 12 loaves of zucchini bread to keep the zucchinis from going to waste. So far I have unloaded 4 loaves to Club Haven, Steph and fam, Kristine and Loi, and my office. Here is a pic of one of the loaves:

Yummy! Also at the farmer's Market this past weekend were the hugest most delicious blueberries I have ever seen! I bought 2 lots and made a huge blueberry buckle. It turned out ok, but I think next time I'll lighten up the glaze as to not brown the top too much. Here's a slice of that:

It's been a baking extravaganza this week and I still have quite a few zucchini loaves to go. Let me know if you want one!

Baby Blanket

I'll be sending Sofi's baby blanket off to Lindsey tomorrow so she can bring it with her to Panama. I tried my best to match the yarn color to a picture of the bedding Sofi will be using for the nursery. The blanket is made from 100% cotton so it is machine washable and dryable for mommy convienience. Once again I'm sooo happy for Sofi and Jony! ¡felicidades!

Sewing!

I've decided to delve further into the world of sewing. I have in the past made a few Halloween costumes as well as done some hemming etc. Now I've decided to try and make baby shoes and accessories. I find the tiny little shoes and tiny little mittens and everything tiny and baby suuuuper adorable so I can't resist starting my foray into sewing with baby items. As soon as I've completed something presentable I'll post pics :) Hope everyone is having a great day and congratulations to my friend Sofi who had a beautiful baby boy last night! Welcome Samuel Schneir!
